Honoring the fearless explorers

Posted by Keller & George at 10:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

For ages, many had attempted but failed to climb the leviathan Mt. Matterhorn. Called as the "Mountain of Mountains," this 4,478m part of the European Alps had remained unconquered until that fateful day in July 1865 when mountain climbing teams of intrepid Englishman Edward Whymper and his similarly fearless rival Italian Jean-Antoine Carrel finally made it to the long-unreachable pinnacle. As a fitting commemoration of these groundbreaking human feats, Ball Watch launches the Limited Edition Engineer Hydrocarbon Arctic Chronometer. It offers robust features for extreme low-light visibility, uber-tough all weather performance, scratch proof ceramic bezel, and wearability in extreme environments. Simply put, the 1,000-piece Engineer Hydrocarbon Arctic Chronometer is the ultimate timepiece for arctic expedition.

Engagement ring trivia

Posted by Keller & George at 11:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

Although we look at engagement today as romantic and highlighted by the luxurious ring (like a Precision Set), the history of engagement has its share of silly, if not weird, moments. Take for example in the first century BC, when sheiks and sultans used engagement ring to tag EACH of their wives. Further back in time, ancient Egyptians would bury their dead with rings of silver or gold on the third finger, which they believed was connected to the heart. Likewise, in 1217, the Salisbury bishop put an end to mock marriages using rings made of rushes by declaring engagement rings as legally binding. In the 1800s during the Victorian Age in England, people made jewelry including rings out of human hair for sentimental value, in the same manner that we treat today's engagement rings.

How We Became the World's Most Industrialized Country

Posted by Keller & George at 2:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

When historians cited the railroads as the harbinger of America's industrial age, they miss a little historical fact what made the trains effective and efficient. Digging deeper into the stories of the Gilded Age, one will discover that behind the massive U.S. railroad systems that made the transport of raw materials and goods from coast to coast possible---thus, putting in motion the big cities that we have now in both coasts and inland---was a small piece of gadget, the Ball Watch timepiece. At a time when train collisions threatened to bog down the railroad system and slow down the industrial age, U.S. railroad officials turned to Webster Clay Ball to create a precision engineer's watch to help train engineers keep a tight lid on their schedules and avoid collisions. This timepiece would soon become the renowned Ball Watch of today, a watch that not only symbolizes accurate time-keeping, but also a small piece of our history as the most industrialized nation on earth today.

It Burns Brighter in the Dark

Posted by Keller & George at 1:53:21 PM in Ball Watch (26)

The Night Train DLC sits somewhere in the middle of Ball Watch’s wide spectrum of watches – nineteenth-century railroad watches on one end and aggressively styled contemporary chronographs on the other. One word about the Night Train is that it is subtle, and yes understated. It comes with the precision of a legit Ball Watch model, the durability under adversity that the brand has long been known for, and the seeming simplicity in the case and dial design that makes it suitable in any occasion.  What makes it most interesting is the dial’s luminosity and legibility at night (or in the theater). Thus, its name, the Night Train. The numbers and indices are powered by micro gas lights that illuminate the watch  even without external light source. They say the candle burns brighter in the dark. In the same way Night Train DLC glows brighter at night.

What Love is

True love is pure and unassumingly beautiful, like a perfectly round Akoya pearl perched delicately on Mikimoto‘s  Love pearl jewelry collection. Love takes faithfulness and hard work, like the steady dedication of the Mikimoto team in cultivating the immaculate pearls that the label has been known for since its establishment in the 1890s by celebrated pearl culture pioneer Kokichi Mikimoto. Love does not fade, like the foremost company‘s unwavering commitment to its vision of adorning every woman with the luxurious beauty of genuine high quality pearl jewels. Love comes in many faces, like the many varieties of the organic stone that Mikimoto sets on its tastefully designed pieces – Akoyas, black and white South Sea pearls, chic Baroques, and rare Conch pearls. The pearls of the Love Collection come in differing shades of loveliness, ranging from rose gold to yellow or white gold, with faint traces of glittering diamonds. Out of Ashes

Posted by Keller & George at 3:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

The history of Ball Watch is quite interesting. The famous watchmaking brand was created by the jeweler Webster Ball in Cleveland, Ohio in the late 1890s. In the decade before that, he was the first person in the area to use time signals, bringing accurate time to Cleveland. But the inception of his watch brand came only later, as a solution to a railway crisis. The lack of standard time in the railway has created difficulties, and even tragedies, to its operations, and Webb C. Ball, after being appointed Chief Inspector of the lines to somehow mitigate the problem, stepped in by creating a strict inspection system of all timetables along the track and coming up with a trustworthy line of timepieces to do the rigorous job. From that hour of need in the railway was born the watch company that now serves people all over the world, including serious adventurers, professional sportsmen, sports enthusiasts, and of course, railway personnel.

Accuracy under Adversity: Because Life is an Extreme Adventure

Posted by Keller & George at 3:10:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

Since 1891, Ball Watch has gone a long way from railroad stations to the North Pole, the depths of oceans, and the controlled environments of space shuttles. The one thing that got the company there is its unfading mantra of “accuracy under adversity”. The brand was born out of the railway’s crucial need for on-the-dot timekeeping precision. After the tragic Kipton Disaster, where two trains collided against each other due to a 4-minute difference in their watches, Webb Ball manufactured his reliable chronographs to prevent the accident from happening again. It turned out that train engineers and conductors were not the only people who needed these high precision devices. Professional deep sea divers, expedition teams, space pilots, and hardcore adventurers now also rely on Ball Watch in their perilous and exciting journeys. Have the confidence to face life’s thrilling adversities; take Ball watch along on your next adventure – the watch that’s been all there and done all that.

The Science of Accuracy

Posted by Keller & George at 9:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

For more than a hundred years, Ball Watch has relentlessly delivered its time tested promise of “Accuracy under adverse conditions”, thanks to its eager pursuit for the most effective watchmaking technology. One difficult situation for serious watch wearers is reading in the dark. Ball’s solution to this problem is a tritium-filled luminescent glass called Self-Powered Micro Gas Light, which glows a hundred times better than luminous paints and lasts up to 25 years. Since Ball’s watches are made for extreme sports and professions, Ball researchers developed timepieces with special lubrication that withstand the harshest temperatures even as low as -40 degrees Celsius. Explorer watches are also especially designed to be antimagnetic, with pieces like the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon having magnetic tolerance as much as 12,000A/m. Aside from those functions, the brand arms its watches with water and shock resistance, crown protection system, state-of-the-art movements, and Diamond-Like Carbon coatings. Taking these features into consideration, there is no wonder Ball Watch can go anywhere and endure anything.

Firemen Function

Posted by Keller & George at 12:42:56 PM in Ball Watch (26)

Many are not aware that the term “fireman,” aside from being used for people fighting fires, was also used for people who tend fires to run steam engines. These firemen are responsible for the difficult task of ensuring an adequate amount of fuel for steam engines for the entire journey, that the train have enough power to safely transport all passengers and cargo to their destinations, in the most timely manner. This job, as with other railway-related jobs, required precision that could only be provided by potent, dependable watches. Ball Watch brings this precision into the Fireman series of watch models. These watches have a shock performance of 5,000 Gs and are water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. These watches also have a strong built and hands that glow in the dark, allowing these to function in extreme environments that these firemen operate in.

Reinventing horology

Posted by Keller & George at 9:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (26)

Horology is the art and science of measuring time. Just like makeup, perfume, and jewelry, a wristwatch is a part of a woman’s fashion statement. But this wasn’t always the case, watches became popular in 1920 as a timepiece used by men. They were commonly hung or kept in trousers bound by watch fobs with metal covers. Wristwatches eventually came into use during World War I, when the leather cupped wristwatch was found to be practical in the battlefield. Such timepieces then were exclusively used by men. However, they were eventually redesigned to be incorporated in women’s fashion. Reinvention of horology by female fashionistas continues with a Ball Watches creation, the Eternity Ladies Timepiece Collection. These are truly fashionable timepieces for women of elegance and style.

Come and get your own Ball Watch at Keller and George Jewelers on Millmont Street.
