Naga Pendant with Black Onyx

Posted by Keller & George at 12:00:00 AM in John Hardy (31)

The Naga pendant is a 2 mm wide Sterling Silver chain linking to a black onyx stone, measuring 15 mm by 10.5mm, that is embedded with the silver image of a Naga. This beautifully and masterfully crafted piece is one of three items in the John Hardy Legends Collection. It is represented alongside the Cobra, the serpent of reincarnation and renewal, and the Macan, the tiger of strength and passion.

Myths of the Naga range all over Southeastern Asia from India to Japan, but this piece is inspired by Chinese mythology. The water dragon is a protector who guards the pearl of the ocean. The ancient believed the pearl to be the jewel that grants all desires. All dragons carried pearls, and to the Chinese, pearls also represented the Moon. To the ancients, the Moon was a symbol of the goddess of life, love and elixirs.

John Hardy was established in Bali in 1975 due to the artist's fascination with the Southeast Asian island. He gathered a group of local artists to help him start the John Hardy jewelry company. All products are crafted from the materials of the earth along with handmade materials. Each piece is inspired by symbolism of Asian mythology, of the culture that surrounds him. He wants there to be jewelry that represents every heart, every desire. Every storyteller can find a piece that speaks to them.

So wear this Naga Pendant, of the water dragon guarding the pearl, the Moon against the black onyx night sky. Feel the power of protection and also the love of the goddess. Know that abundance is all around you.

Wear the Dot

Posted by Keller & George at 11:02:28 PM in John Hardy (31)

Clothes are a way of expressing ourselves, our feelings and our identities. What we wear can inform passersby of our type of employment, as well as our ambitions, emotions and spending habits. Just like clothes, jewelries can also create stereotypes and can boost self-confidence and self-esteem or even represent our beliefs through the symbols it signifies. Having this in mind, John Hardy, through powerful design, dramatic detail and inspiring meaning, created the Dot Collection — a collection that represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and quality and with no beginning and no end. With the Dot Collection, one can wear boundless love and infinite possibility through the textured and symmetrical spheres of the collection. Have your chosen jewelry tell the story of the sun and its masculine power or the story of the soul and its encircling water.

John Hardy, the artist

Posted by Keller & George at 2:00:00 AM in John Hardy (31)

Artists are individuals who use their skills, talents, and imagination to create works of art, often with aesthetic value. Before, the term is used to exclusively refer to those in the fine arts. But time has changed and artists now pertain to a wide spectrum of human activities, which include music, writing, movies, dance, photography, etc. In the colorful world of jewelry design, John Hardy is an artist nonpareil, world-renowned for his Eastern-inspired motifs and “sustainable” handmade jewelry methods. While most artists typically apprenticed to learn from certain mentors, John Hardy learned his artistic techniques by being an apprentice to not just one mentor but to a traditional Asian culture—the Balinese jewelry-making in Indonesia. He also innovatively incorporated elements of “sustainability” to all his jewelry designs and in operating the company, earning its moniker as a “green” enterprise.

Charming Chains

Posted by Keller & George at 2:00:00 AM in John Hardy (31)

A chain is a series of connected links which are typically made of metal. The prevalent modern symbolism is oppression, due to the use for a mechanical restriction of the liberty of a human or animal. But more and more people have used it as a symbol of interconnectivity or interdependence. In fact, it symbolizes an eternal connection with an ideal or a loved one. A linked chain has been a symbol of marriage because of the immortal connection soul-mates share. In this light, the chain stands for eternal love - especially in marriage. But for John Hardy, the stunningly complex classic chain technique is a tribute to the ancient chain weaving practiced in Bali since the 19th century when the country was still divided into eight kingdoms, each king competing for status with the beauty of his castles, queens and jewelry. First introduced at John Hardy in the 1980s, the collection – which offers soft and amazingly comfortable to wear silver links – has already evolved to also include the carved chain motif.

Posted by Keller & George at 1:00:00 AM in John Hardy (31)

The Naga Collection of renowned silver jewelry manufacturer John Hardy is inspired by Bali’s local tale about Naga the dragon, who flies from his volcano home over the villages down to the heart of the ocean to visit his most beloved, the pearl. Each morning as he returns home, the mythical creature leaves behind a trail that brings water to the farmers. Based in the heart of Bali Indonesia where the Naga legend is famous, John Hardy finds inspiration in the dragon for many of its best-selling luxury jewelry pieces such as the Naga Triple Station Bangle. The 9mm piece wears comfortably around the wrist with its triple strands of black finished bands that are held together by an intricate silver Naga looped around the whole piece. The fine detailing and clean contours of the dragon figure is indicative of the manufacturer’s expertise in handcrafted and oriental inspired designs.

Dots How John Hardy Defines Glamour

Posted by Keller & George at 10:00:15 AM in John Hardy (31)

John Hardy, Bali-based designer jewelry manufacturer, is known for its rich jewelry collections that are inspired by Asian culture and crafted using traditional handmade techniques. One of its anchor collections is the Dot, whose motif is derived from the ancient local granulating method. The technique decorates the surface of an ornament with small spheres of precious metal to create or enhance the texture and design. Head designer Guy Bedarida decided to give the centuries-old technique a modern spin by flattening the metal balls into crisp and clean dots. The architectural rhythm and highly polished surface of the resulting design conveyed a sense of high-powered contemporary glamour to every piece. A rare rendition of this popular design is the Dot Collection Knuckle Ring with Diamond Pave, which features a dotted sterling silver and 18 k yellow gold cobra in a striking pose, with a crown of pave diamonds painstakingly hand-applied on its head. The piece is indeed, high-powered, contemporary and glamorous.

Unchained Elegance

Posted by Keller & George at 3:00:00 AM in John Hardy (31)

Every piece of jewelry has a story to tell. At least, at John Hardy they do.  The Classic Chain is among the most popular collections by the Bali-based designer jewelry manufacturer; one with a rich history behind it. Back in the 19th Century, the country’s eight kingdoms vied for status with elegant castles, beautiful queens and exquisite jewelry. The technique for creating the elaborate design of the Classic Chain is inspired by Bali’s ancient chain weaving practice that made a name for its ancient kingdom in jewelry-making. John Hardy learned the unique craft from its first jewelry maker, the grandson of the previous king’s jewelry maker himself.  The braided bracelets are handcrafted using annealed sterling silver chains plated with rhodium for a supply draped metal sheen. The remarkably comfortable chains are decked with precious stones such as blue sapphire and amethyst; a perfect gift for the woman who reigns your heart.

Bamboo is a type of grass found in different regions of the Earth and is well known for its fast growth. This versatile plant has been called “nature’s gift to mankind” due to its different uses. The plant is also a central element in the Balinese way of life and is used by natives as food, building material and decoration. The plant has also inspired the creation of the Bamboo Collection, which has become one of the most iconic of John Hardy’s styles. The collection’s jewelry pieces inherit the characteristics of the bamboo with their strong design and organic style.
